Chaos into color
Painting became the conversation he didn’t know how to have…
For most of his life, David carried life quietly to himself.
As the son of a Methodist Preacher in the 80’s, his childhood was spent moving from town to town throughout the Midwest where ever the Church needed his Dad.
Every move meant starting over, making new friends, & learning how to fit into a new community.
Like many preacher kids, there was an unspoken expectation to be an example & fit a version of himself that other people seemed to have already decided on for him.
By the time the Church settled his family into the small farm town of Tarkio, Missouri, David had become familiar with reinvention. He played high school football & found himself yet again unconsciously assimilating to others expectations.
As with many men, David learned early that emotions were something to manage privately. You stay strong. You handled your problems. You didn’t talk much about fear, loneliness or uncertainty.
That the check list of the American dream was the safest route to live this life. School, Career, Buy a Home, Get Married. Running on the hamster wheel of America.
UNTIL
Seeking therapy in 2025 when depression hit his all time low. David unexpectedly took to painting.
What started as paint on canvas quickly became something else entirely.
A safe place to process.
To explore.
Be creative.
Escape the mind.
Ultimately, to start HEALING.
The Anxious Painter isn’t a character or marketing idea. It’s simply the truth of one mans life that has no rules on canvas.
Many of his paintings represent a side of human emotion. Some are messy. Some are dark. Some are hopeful. Some are odd.
Yet, all of them are REAL.
With no formal art training, David paints from instinct rather than instruction. By sharing his story & paintings, he hopes others feel a little less alone in their own struggles.
